Science and Industry – Partners in Advancement
Science and industry work hand in hand toward goals and progress of humanity. Researchers work diligently on the newest scientific innovations to combat disease, pestilence and daily living. In experimental stages of research, science provides answers to questions formerly unproven as it develops formulae and theory that are then transferred for further advancement by industry.
Science for Every Day Life
As an example, in the field of industrial materials that make life safer and easier, resins, powders, flavorings and fragrances, researchers continually seek to improve their research results for higher quality industrial products for consumption.
Science and the Medical Industry
Whole areas of the medical industry rely heavily upon science to advance instrumentation for surgical procedures and general physician use, pharmaceuticals and prosthetics for maximum consumer advantage. Science is key to producing viable remedies for most any human ills. The science of robotics, for example, has produced the most effective means of non-invasive surgery as well as state-of-the-art prosthetics for amputees. Science in the medical industry as it relates to health care is inextricably linked. The newest field yet to be fully developed, stem cell research, in its infancy, has enormous potential to erase diseases formerly believed to be without cure.
Science Is Everywhere in Industry
Most manufacturing industries retain a Research and Development (R&D) department where chemists, biochemists, biologists, microbiologists and chemical engineers toil over experiments daily that produce new ideas and specifications for industrial products and services. Without these researchers challenging the old and qualifying the new, advancement stemming from the sciences would stagnate. From cosmetics, to clothing material to new advances in housing materials, science shares with industry all of the data collected in experimentation in an effort to produce more suitable consumables. In this way, science is clearly a partner in industry everywhere as a first step.
Future in 2050
Computers ten years from today – featuring articles
Do you remember what your first computer looked like? It was very slow, and did not even have word processor. It was basically a typewriter with a screen. We have advanced so much today, and are advancing every day. Computers tens year from now will probably be very small and compact. As we all know, everything is shrinking and becoming portable.
The computers of the future will be able to take your grocery order by voice. It will order your pizza for you. It will be connected to everything in your home, from the television to the bathroom water. It will be able to be used anywhere, like a laptop, but much more advanced.
The computer ten years from today will help you organize your life. It will do your work for you. Imagine being able to control your home, like a smart house. The doors can be locked and the lights will be turned off. You will be able to do everything all from your computer, which will be small enough to fit in your pocket, yet fold out like a normal size computer.
It is amazing what the future holds, and the possibilities are endless. Everyday scientist are coming out with new inventions to help improve our lives. Running a vacuum and washing your dishes all while sitting and doing your work online is not to far away. The term multi-tasking will have a completely new meaning, as the computer ten years from today, will allow us to do a million things at once, allowing more time to spend with our family.

Rubber uses
Thousands are currently manufacturing rubber products for very different uses. The rubber is widely used in the manufacture of tires, wheels, rubber flooring, waterproof and insulated items, for its excellent properties of elasticity and resistance to acids and alkalis. It is repellent to water, temperature insulation and electricity. It dissolves easily to Petrolatum , benzene and some hydrocarbons.
Natural rubber is often vulcanized, a process which is heated and added sulfur or selenium, which is achieved by the chain bonding elastomers to improve their resistance to temperature variations and elasticity. The vulcanization process was discovered accidentally in 1839 by Charles Goodyear, who greatly improved the durability and usefulness of the rubber. The cold vulcanization, developed in 1846 by Alexander Parkes , consists of immersing the rubber in a solution of sulfur monochloride (Cl 2 S 2 ). Currently more than half of the rubber used today is synthetic, but still there are several million tons of natural rubber annually.
Since 1823 is used as material for making rubber clothing, perhaps on the basis that this type of clothing as a “second skin.” Hypoallergenic rubber can be produced from guayule (plant Parthenium argentatum). Rubber is a proposal for the future as insulation in the motor industry. With the beginning of the XXI century, in view of the growing global shortage of oil , began research in selected universities in Brazil, the potential they could have this material as a method of obtaining clean energy, such as external reinforcement in certain types of propulsion engines siphon .
Starting new business – registration & licences
When you’re starting up a new business it’s important to find out what business registration and licences apply to you. This can be complex as local, state, territory and federal governments all handle registration and licensing for various aspects of your business. My suggestion for new business: generator sales, web design, small neighborhood shop…
Unclaimed Super Funds
Many Australian residents and citizens change employers from time to time. Each employer has a preferred super fund where they send Superfund contributions for their employees. When employers change, usually the super fund provider will also change. This will leave an employee with plenty of funds lying around with various different Superfund providers.
When varying amounts of monies are lying around in such accounts and the account holder is unaware of these funds, the funds are then declared unclaimed. Unclaimed super funds are basically funds that are held in super fund accounts and there are no known contacts of the account holder and no recent contributions have been received.
Many Superfund organizations in Australia send unclaimed super funds to organizations that specialize in holding unclaimed super funds. A good example of the is AUSFund – this is Australia’s Unclaimed Super Funds. People are advised to conduct a simple and free check to see if they have unclaimed funds lying around. Sometimes these funds are sent to the ATO, the Australian Tax Office.
When unclaimed superfunds are located and the identity of the owner is established, then the account holder can have these funds transferred to their regular Superfund account. it is important that applicants realize that should they locate unclaimed superfunds, they can not apply to receive these funds. Superfunds can only be claimed after an individual attains the age of 55. In other circumstances individuals may be entitled to claim their super funds. this is possible for non-Australian residents who worked legally in Australia but have departed the country and no longer hold valid visas.

Freight forwarding
A freight forwarder is usually a company that organizes shipments for individuals or other companies. A forwarder is a third-party (non-asset-based) logistics provider that dispatches shipments and books or arranges space for these shipments.
Freight forwarders typically arrange cargo movement to an international destination, also called international freight forwarding. They have the knowledge that allows them to perform related activities pertaining to international shipments and process the documentation about it. Commercial invoice, shipper’s export declaration, bill of lading and other documents required by the carrier or country of export, import, or transshipment – these are some typical informations related to freight forwarders job. Today this informations are processed by the computers.
The commercial position of the forwarder can be illustrated with the description “Architect of Transport”. In Europe there are forwarders that specialise in ‘niche’ areas such as railfreight and collection and deliveries around a large port. The latter are called Hafen (port) Spediteure (Port Forwarders). A forwarder in some countries may sometimes deal only with domestic traffic and never handle international traffic.
Fire protection
Fire is unfortunately common and has a devastating effect. Annual fires require many victims. Many people see it as ‘far from my bed’, but fire can happen to anyone. Serious fire damage can be prevented by fire-fighting in the house. There are all kinds of anti-fire regulations and fire protections.
It is useful and important to have smoke detectors, fire blankets and portable fire extinguishers a minimum of 2 kg of standard in the house.
Fire blanket
A fire blanket is easily available and cheap to buy but can make all the difference. The blanket is made of fireproof material and covers flames. A fire blanket is ideal for a freestanding object to extinguish the fire. A blanket of 180 x 180 cm is suitable for beginners small fires, home, caravan. boat, kitchen or barbecue, smoldering trash, tv, etc. It is best to keep blanket in the kitchen store.
Water
In general: in a case of fire stay away from the smoke. Because smoke is toxic, you run a greater risk of this of than fire itself. Take a fighting effort as you are really sure that the situation is relatively safe. The simplest agent is water, which is almost always present. Water cools the fire. It is best to use a long garden hose every room in the house too wet to spray (and if possible to achieve). There are also official fire fighting pumps for sale, which can easily be used for larger areas such as gardens or fields.
Fire Extinguisher
With a fire extinguisher, you can stop a fire in the bud. The extinguisher shall have a capacity of at least 2 kg. Extinguishers shoul be filled with powder or BCF (bromochlorodifluoromethane). There are different types of fire extinguishers, the most important are: Halo extinguishers (BCF), dry chemical extinguishers, snow extinguisher with carbon dioxide (CO2 extinguishers) and foam extinguishers.
Smoke detector
A smoke detector is literally what its name says – he reports that at a certain place is in smoke. Not the fire itself, but the smoke is a leading cause of death by fire. The smoke from fire, contains combustion products, including toxic gases such as carbon monoxide. The fire department recommends that smoke detectors because they will detect fire at a very early stage. The placement of smoke detectors is very important and can affect people and animal lives. Smoke detectors warn you in time for the dangers of fire and smoke and are therefore of vital importance.
